Before Wynwood became what it is today, Miami Kava was already giving local artists a stage. From The Flex Competition to B-Boy battles to one of Miami’s most iconic open mics, we helped shape a creative era, and we’re proud to share the memories that made it.
Recorded at Miami Kava (formerly House of Roots / Roots Miami). Cynful Sweet performed a mix of covers and originals, including:
Miami Kava’s Open Mic, held every Wednesday at 8 PM, was a gathering place for artists and creatives throughout Miami. This live performance by Psychic Dove stands as part of the city’s history of art and culture.
This recording from Miami Kava’s Open Mic features DJ Subconscious Beats, who served as the DJ for the weekly open mic events, violinist Nay Rozé, a popular regular at the open mic, and another artist from the lineup whose name is not confirmed.
Partnered with Voice Visions at our previous location, Roots Miami Kava, to host interviews with local talent, giving artists a platform to share their stories, inspirations, and the roots behind their craft. Here are some of those.
Multi-genre artist and producer Lazy, I joined us at our former Miami Kava home to talk about his journey from high school band beginnings to becoming a creative force in Miami’s music scene. He shared insight into his collaboration album Jean Blue with Roger Songbird, his upcoming solo project, and advice for emerging artists finding their sound.
Known for blending quick, introspective flows with soulful storytelling, Fayetteville artist Lotus Hill joined us at our former Miami Kava home to talk about his journey, his upcoming “POTUS” video, and the meaning behind his project From The Mud. Over a shell of kava, he opened up about growth, purpose, and finding his voice through authenticity.
During COVID-19, Miami Kava continued its Open Mic from our stage at the former Miami Kava home. These sessions brought artists back to perform safely, keeping the community connected and the creative energy alive when the city needed it most.
Even during COVID-19, Miami Kava kept the spirit of community alive through virtual Open Mics from home. This session features The Uncanny Reservoir, a band formed by Wise Guy Jeff, Steve The Darkside, and Madman Moses, this digital edition proved creativity never stops.
Even during lockdown, Miami Kava kept the music alive with virtual open mics. This session features Beniyah performing tracks like “We Danced” and “I Already Knew.” Recorded in our home stream series, it’s a reminder that art finds a way no matter what.
